Community

A secondary purpose of St. Mary’s Court is to provide community involvement and program activities to residents and persons living in the neighborhood. As a nutrition site for the D.C. Office on Aging’s weekday lunch program (Title IIIC), St. Mary’s Court offers a nutritious and affordable (nominal voluntary contribution) noonday meal to residents of St. Mary’s Court and to persons in the community who are 60 years of age or older. St. Mary’s Court offers a broad-based activities calendar that includes weekly classes in tai chi, yoga, chair exercises, as well as a weekly blood pressure clinic, arts and crafts classes, Rummikub, ESL, and various religious services each month. Bus trips to restaurants, museums, and shopping at grocery stores, and as a farmers’ market, are regular offerings to residents and the larger community. Residents are encouraged to attend committee meetings where they can suggest trips for the year, and offer their ideas for the evening meal program and special meals served each month.
